5th-ranked men’s cross country team one of five top-25 teams in field

The 5th-ranked Chico State men's cross country team is off to a strong start in 2022, having won its first two races in convincing fashion. It's going to take a special performance at Saturday's NCAA D2 Pre-Nationals to make it three in a row. The Wildcats are one of five nationally-ranked squads scheduled to compete in the 30-team field, which includes NCAA Division II No. 1 Colorado School of Mines.

Chico State and Colorado Mines are joined by 10th-ranked Western Colorado, No. 20 Western Washington, No. 22 Simon Fraser, and No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona. Six more teams in the field are ranked among the top 10 in their respective region. They will all tackle the 8,000-meter course at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington, along the shores of the Puget Sound. That will also be the site of the NCAA Championships on Dec. 2.

The Men's Open 8K will start at 10 a.m. and the Men's Invitational-exclusively for Division II teams of up to 10 runners per team—takes place at 10:40 a.m. Chico State will have teams in each division.
