When it comes to sport, no one ever really knows what's going to happen. However, there are always expectations. And the big expectations the members of the Chico State men's golf program brought into the 2022–23 campaign appear to be warranted through the team's first two events.
Outside of a disappointing day to open the season, the Wildcats have impressed. They posted the second best round of the day in the final round of the Western Washington Invitational to move up three spots into a sixth-place finish out of 17 teams. And last week, they road that momentum to victory at the Wildcat Classic, posting rounds of 4-under-par 284, 12-under-par 276, and 4-under-par 284 to beat Simon Fraser by one stroke and Sonoma State by two.
As a result of their first two performances, the Wildcats are ranked No. 11 in the nation in the Golfstat relative rankings. Sure, it's early, but it sure is fun!
They'll take that ranking, and hope to carry that momentum, into the Otter Invitational this Monday and Tuesday at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside. The 54-hole event will begin with two rounds Monday and close with a single round Tuesday.
