Both Chico State men's basketball road games scheduled for this week have been canceled due to the University's COVID-19 protocols, in accordance with California Collegiate Athletic Association policy.
The 4th-ranked Wildcats (10-0 overall and 6-0 in the CCAA) were scheduled to play at Cal State East Bay Thursday night and Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday afternoon. CCAA policy dictates that both games will be declared a 'no contest,' meaning the games will not be reflected on either teams' win-loss record, and neither game will be rescheduled.
On December 31, the CCAA announced a modified COVID-19 policy for canceled games. For the 2021–22 season, games canceled due to COVID-related circumstances will now be declared a 'no contest' rather than a 'forfeit.' This policy also applies to any conference basketball games that were previously ruled a forfeit prior to the change of policy.
The changes were made in consideration of the recent surge of the Omicron variant, which is impacting fully-vaccinated individuals. They also align with NCAA standards.
The Wildcats are scheduled to be back in action on Thursday, January 13, at home against Cal State San Marcos. The game is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m., following the women's game.
