SEASIDE—A defensive mistake just 1:45 into the match made all the difference as the Chico State men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at Cal State Monterey Bay Friday afternoon in Seaside. The Otters earned a corner early in the match and Pedro Hernandez stepped out from the near post to the top of the 6-yard box and no Wildcat went with him. Adrian Rebollar connected with Hernandez on his corner kick and Hernandez directed it inside the left post.
Able to focus on the defensive end of things from that point on, the Otters limited Chico State to just three shots. Two were saved and the other was off target. Chico State goalkeeper made seven saves on the Otters' nine shots on goal. One came on a penalty kick.
The Wildcats are now 2-7-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) heading into a match at 25th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday at 2 p.m. in Carson. Cal State Monterey Bay is now 5-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the CCAA.
