When Nick Green took the reins of the Chico State men's golf program four years ago, he brought with him a legacy of academic distinction as the only three-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar Award winner in the team's history.
Â
Green has high expectations on his players in terms of their coursework, and their work on the course. Nicholas Caputo shined in both areas in 2019–20. The senior earned the All-America Scholar Award, becoming the fifth to do so during Green's tenure and the team's 12th in the past 10 seasons.
Â
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status, a Division II athlete must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average of 78.0 or better, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Â
Caputo captured honorable mention All-CCAA honors by posting two top-five finishes and a stroke average of 74.0. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in business administration and plans to have a career as a financial advisor.
