Wildcats win sixth straight, end skid at SF State

Chico State knocks down 15 threes for the third time this season

SAN FRANCISCO—The legendary Tom Petty would be proud of the Chico State men's basketball team. Once again, the Wildcats were three…. three ballin'. Chico State knocked down 15 threes for the third time this season and pulled away midway through the second half to stop a three-game losing streak against San Francisco State, 83-69, Thursday night.

Seven different Wildcats drained triples as they shot 15-of-28 from beyond the arc as they won at The Swamp for the first time since 2015. Calvin Geraci and Isaiah Brooks were both 4-of-5 and Colby Orr was 2-of-3. Big man Justin Briggs even got in on the action, knocking down his lone attempt.

Geraci finished with a team-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting and dished out a career-best five assists. Brooks finished with 14 points. Kevin Warren chipped in 11 points, and Briggs and Joshua Hamilton had 10 apiece. Briggs also contributed six boards, three steals, and two blocked shots. Hamilton had four assists. Malik Duffy finished with eight points and a game-high eight rebounds.

The win was Chico State's sixth straight and sixth straight on the road. The Wildcats have now won 10 of their last 11 to improve to 12-3 overall and 8-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

San Francisco State, now 5-10 overall and 2-7 in the CCAA, has dropped six in a row.

Orr hit back to back threes and then a jumper to give Chico State a 34-30 lead with three minutes remaining in the opening half. They remained in front for the duration of the game.

The Wildcats led 37-32 at the break before Duffy scored the team's first eight points of the second stanza. That was part of a 23-point outburst over the first seven minutes of the half that put Chico State in control, up 60-47. Briggs and Geraci had six points apiece during the run.

Brooks helped seal the deal by pumping in 11 points during a 14-5 push that put Chico State ahead 76-61 with 5:36 to go.

Chico State, which remains a half-game behind UC San Diego in second place in the CCAA, will not play another conference game for two weeks. After hosting UC Santa Cruz in a non-conference affair next Friday night, they'll host Cal Dominguez Hills on Jan. 23 and Cal State LA Jan. 25.
