Offensive onslaught

Wildcats score most points in CCAA era, match most against a Division II team

The Chico State men's basketball team tied the team record for most points scored against an NCAA Division II opponent and set a new program standard in the California Collegiate Athletic Association era with a 113-69 win against visiting Cal State Monterey Bay Thursday night at Acker Gym. The 113 points is tied for the eighth most ever by a Chico State team.
 
Led by Joshua Hamilton's perfect 5-for-5 night, the Wildcats knocked down 15-of-24 three pointers. They also scored 50 points in the paint, got 50 points off the bench and 33 points off Otters turnovers.
 
Chico State improved to 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA while Cal State Monterey Bay dipped to 4-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.
 
Malik Duffy drained 8-of-11 shots (including 4-of-6 threes) on his way to a game-high 22 points. Hamilton hit 6-of-7 shots in route to a 20-point effort off the bench. Kelvin Wright Jr. was 7-of-9 from the floor and scored a career-high 14 points to go along with six boards in his 16 minutes of action. Justin Briggs bagged a 13-point, 13-rebound double-double. And Calvin Geraci and Kevin Warren gave the Wildcats six scorers in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
All 12 active Wildcats dished out at least one assist led by Isaiah Brooks' four. Spencer LaShells' three assists is a new career high and his eight rebounds match his career best.
 
With his 13 rebounds Briggs moved past Roderick Hawkins into 10th place on the program's career rebounds list with a total of 558.
 
Chico State employed runs of 13-0 and 14-0 to race out to a 35-7 lead 11 minutes into the game and took a 57-22 advantage into the break. The Wildcats lead grew as large as 49, at 108-59, with 4:12 remaining.
 
Winners of five of their last six, Chico State will hit the road to take on Sonoma State Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. The Wildcats will be back home to face their longest-running rivals, Humboldt State, on Saturday, December 21, at 7:30 p.m.
