The first five games of the season have been a bit of a rollercoaster for the Chico State men's basketball team. The Wildcats (3-2 overall and 1-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) started the season with a win. Then lost. Then won. Then lost. Then won.
They let a 13-point lead slip away in a loss to Azusa Pacific and came back to from 10 points down to beat Cal State East Bay.
What head coach Greg Clink would like to see from his team heading into a pair of non-conference games this week is some continuity. The Wildcats will play Academy of Art at San Francisco's historic Kezar Pavilion Wednesday at 4 p.m. and then host Dominican University Saturday at 4 p.m. at Acker Gym.
Wednesday's game will be broadcast locally on AM-1290 KPAY, while Saturday's affair will be on FM-93.9 KPAY, with the pre-game show beginning at 3:45. Links to audio streams, streaming video, and live stats for each game are available on the top-right corner of this release, on the men's basketball schedule page, and in the calendar section of our homepage.
The Wildcats will be matching up against Academy of Art for the fifth time ever and first time since 2016. They are 4-0 all time against the Urban Knights, including 1-0 at Kezar Pavilion.
Academy of Art enters the game with a record of 2-3, having beaten CCAA sides Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay, while losing to San Francisco State, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal State Monterey Bay.
Chico State has won four in a row and six of seven all time against Dominican. This will mark the seventh season in a row they have matched up. Chico State won last year's game in San Rafael 74-61 behind Kevin Warren's 17-point outing. Isaiah Brooks (14) and Malik Duffy (13) also scored in double figures.
Chico State won 92-53 the last time these teams played at Acker Gym, early in the 2817–18 campaign.
Dominican, which plays Purdue Northwest Tuesday at Cal State Dominguez Hills, is still in search of its first win of the season. However, three of the Penguins' four losses have come against CCAA competition in games decided by six points or less.
