Late goal galls Wildcats on otherwise successful Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry Night

Chico State’s 10-match home win streak ends

Visiting Cal Poly Pomona handed the Chico State men's soccer team its second loss of the season and ended the Wildcats' 10-match home unbeaten streak with an 86th-minute goal in a tightly-contested match between two of the top-ranked teams in the West Region Friday night at University Soccer Stadium.

Chico State (7-2-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) out-shot the reigning NCAA West Region champions 3-0 in the first half and did not surrender a single shot until the 54th minute.

Though the Broncos attack finally got untracked in the second stanza, neither team could break through until reigning CCAA Player of the Week Jimmie Villalobos got his head on Eduardo Faria's corner kick at the near post with 4:41 remaining in regulation.

Meanwhile, near the stadium entrance, Chico State fans once again generously donating food and money to the Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry. The third annual Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry Night was a huge success once again. Last year the pantry provided food for 6,000 Chico State students, according to Chico State Basic Needs Administrator Joe Picard.

The Broncos improved to 4-3-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the CCAA.

Chico State will next turn its attention to 13th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino, which improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the CCAA with its 6-1 win at Stanislaus State Friday night. Links to live stats and streaming video for Sunday's showdown are available at www.chicowildcats.com.

After Sunday's match, the Wildcats will play three straight on the road before returning home to play their final three CCAA matches at University Soccer Stadium.
