Egujie gets tricky in Wildcats’ 3-0 win

Nets 21st hat trick in Chico State men’s soccer history

SAN MARCOS, Calif.—Jeremiah Egujie posted the 21st hat trick in Chico State men's soccer history to lead the Wildcats to a 3–0 victory at Cal State San Marcos Sunday. The Wildcats are now 4-0 on the road this season and have won their last six away affairs dating back to last season.

Egujie, who has scored all six of his goals this season away from home, tallied twice in a 14-second span in the first half. Frankie Palmer assisted each time. Egujie completed the trick in the 65th minute, avoiding a tackle while dribbling down the right side before unleashing a rocket that sailed inside the far post.

Chico State improved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with the victory. Cal State San Marcos slipped to 2-2-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the CCAA.

Palmer's cross to Egujie, who finished at the mouth of the goal, put the Wildcats ahead 21:04 into the match. The pair struck again 14 seconds later. This time Palmer played Egujie through into the box and the junior transfer from Arizona Western Community College finished with a low drive past the keeper.

Wildcats goalkeeper Damion Lewis made four saves to earn his second shutout of the weekend.

Coby Cueva and Ryan Caro each played a full 90 minutes while helping to anchor the back line.

The Wildcats will be back home for their next two matches, beginning with a showdown with Stanislaus State (2-2-2, 0-1-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m. They'll host unbeaten San Francisco State (5-0-0) in the Gators' CCAA opener Friday at 4:30 p.m.
