ROCKLIN, Calif.—The Chico State volleyball team successfully lifted the lid on the 2017 season Thursday, continuing the program's long-standing dominance over William Jessup. The Wildcats have yet to lose a match to the Warriors, making it eight straight overall with a decisive 25-18, 25-14, 25-17 win at Warrior Arena in Rocklin.
Chico State combined for an efficient .306 hitting percentage while spreading the offensive wealth around. Olivia Mediano led the Wildcats with seven kills while adding nine digs and three blocks. Alex Boyle also delivered seven kills and five blocks, while Kim Wright added six kills and six blocks on the night.
Makaela Keeve, one of five freshmen on the 'Cats' roster, registered five kills and four blocks in her Chico State debut, with Anna Baytosh and Bekah Boyle contributing four winners apiece.
McKenna Carroll racked up 16 assists to lead the Wildcats, with Nicole Desrochers collecting 14 assists on the evening. Brooke Fogel led all players Thursday with 15 digs.
The 'Cats are now a perfect 8-0 against William Jessup dating back to their first meeting in 2007. In those eight victories, the Wildcats have logged seven match sweeps and have lost just a single set to the Warriors during that 11-year stretch.
Chico State jumps right back into action Friday in first day action at the Route 92 Classic. The Wildcats will be in Hayward to take on Holy Names at 10:30 a.m., followed by a 4:30 p.m. tilt versus Dominican.
