Chico State's incredible basketball fans came up big Sunday, donating 760 food items and hundreds of dollars in cash donations on Wildcat Pantry Day. The donations will support Chico State's Hungry Wildcat Food Pantry, dedicated to serving the University's food-insecure students.
Â
The fans also witnessed a phenomenal performance. Unfortunately, it was one they could only admire instead of celebrate. Cal State Dominguez Hills hit 14-of-20 3-pointers on the way to an 81–63 victory over the Wildcats, handing Chico State just its third loss in its last 33 conference affairs at Acker Gym.

Spurred by a trio of triples, the Toros finished the first half with a 14-2 run and rolled from there, saddling Chico State with its largest margin of defeat since a 26-point loss to the Toros on Jan. 19, 2013.
Â
Chico State fell to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) despite Isaiah Ellis' 19 points.
Â
Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the CCAA.
Â
The Toros had five different players with two or more 3-pointers Sunday. None of them entered the game shooting better than 33 percent from distance. Deondre Otis, 1-for-7 entering the day, was 3-for-3. Matt Hayes, 17-for-51 coming in, was also 3-for-3. Jonathan Nichols, who had hit just 15 threes in the Toros' first 14 games, was 3-for-5. Nichols finished with 19 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
Â
Ellis was 8-for-13 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range for the Wildcats. Redshirt freshman Malik Duffy was 4-for-8, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, on his way to 11 points. Jalen McFerren finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and six assists. But the rest of the Wildcats combined to shoot just 7-for-22.
Â
The Wildcats, who slipped into third in the CCAA standings, will now head out on an important road trip that will take them through Cal State San Marcos Friday and UC San Diego Saturday. They'll return home to face Cal State San Bernardino on Jan. 11 and Cal Poly Pomona Jan. 13.
Â
Cal Poly Pomona enters the new year in first place at 6-1, Cal State San Marcos is second at 5-1, and UC San Diego entered its game at Stanislaus State Sunday in fourth place at 4-2.Â
