’Cats and Lumberjacks tangle for 200th time Friday

Matchup pits one of nation’s stingiest defenses against CCAA’s most productive offense

Way back in 1933 the Chico State and Humboldt State men's basketball teams played for the first time. The long-time rivals will tangle for the 200th time Friday at 7:30 in Acker Gym.
 
Chico State leads the series 124-75 and the Wildcats have won three in a row. They've also won four of the last five meetings in Chico.
 
Last season, Chico State swept the season series, holding the Lumberjacks to two of their eight lowest scoring outputs of the season in wins of 86-68 and 82-74.

Friday night's showdown once again pits one of the nation's highest-powered offenses against one of the nation's stingiest defenses. Humboldt State is averaging a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) best 91.4 points per game, but allowing 82, which ranks last in the conference. Chico State has allowed only 58.3 points per game, which is second in the nation and tops in the CCAA. The Wildcats are scoring at a clip of 72.6 points per game.
 
The Wildcats also hope to have an advantage on the glass. They rank 13th in the nation and first in the in rebounding margin at plus-9. Meanwhile, Humboldt State has been outrebounded by 4.1 per game, which ranks last in the CCAA and 258th in the nation.
 
The Lumberjacks, 6-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA, had won six straight prior to an 85-82 loss at Cal State L.A. last Friday.
 
Chico State is 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA.
