SAN RAMON – The Chico State and Humboldt State men's basketball teams met for the 200th time Friday night. Few Wildcats in the history of the series can boast a game on par with the one junior point guard Jalen McFerren had in the Wildcats' 96-73 victory in Acker Gym.
McFerren scored 21 points and matched his career-high with 13 rebounds, while leading Chico State's defensive effort, which held the Lumberjacks 19 points below their season scoring average.
Tuesday, McFerren was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
The Castro Valley High School graduate was 5-for-9 from the field, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and made 7-of-8 free throws in missing a career-high in scoring by a single point.
His 13 rebounds led the way for the Wildcats, who dominated the glass Friday to the tune of a 54-30 advantage.
McFerren accomplished it all while outdueling 2015-16 First Team All-CCAA guard Malik Morgan, holding the Lumberjacks playmaker to six points on 3-of-7 shooting.
The 8-2 Wildcats are back in action Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at home versus Sonoma State.
