After Tuesday tilt, ’Cats host 57th Mac Martin Invitational

Wildcats open home campaign with three games in five days

The Chico State men's basketball team is finally home. And the team's fans have a chance to get their fill of the 11th-ranked Wildcats this weekend when they play three home games in five days beginning with a Tuesday night non-conference tilt against Stanislaus State at 7:30 p.m.
 
The Wildcats will host the 57th Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Invitational this weekend. On Friday, Cal State East Bay will face Northwest Nazarene at 5:30 p.m., and Chico State will take on Academy of Art at 7:30. Saturday, Cal State East Bay and Academy of Art will play at 5:30 and Chico State will face off with Northwest Nazarene at 7:30.
 
Every remaining Chico State basketball this season will be broadcast locally on Newstalk 1290 KPAY-AM. Links to streaming audio, video and live stats are available in the calendar section on the ChicoWildcats.com homepage and on the men's basketball schedule page.
 
The Wildcats are 2-1 this season, having beaten Concordia University Irvine and Dominican University. They lost to NAIA No. 4 Biola.
 
Isaiah Ellis, Robert Duncan, and Justin Briggs are all averaging 12.3 points apiece to lead the Wildcats. A redshirt freshman, Briggs is also pacing the team in blocks (2.3) and rebounds per game (7.0) and field-goal percentage (.810, 17-for-21).
 
Stanislaus State is 1-2 and coming off a 64-45 drubbing of Cal State Dominguez Hills. Junior transfer Kaelen Mitchell leads the Warriors in scoring at 17.3 points per game. The 6-foot-6 guard/forward is shooting 44 percent from 3-point range and has hit 10 in three games.
 
Academy of Art, which will have played nearly half of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) after this weekend, is 1-3 thus far. The Urban Knights have lost at San Francisco State, Cal State San Bernardino, and Sonoma State. They beat Stanislaus State in overtime in Turlock. Chris Salas, a 6-foot-3 senior guard, leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.8).
 
Northwest Nazarene is 2-1, having beaten Simpson University and Portland Bible. They fell to Colorado Christian. The Crusaders, who have five players averaging at least 12.3 points per game, will face The College of Idaho in an exhibition game Tuesday. Kaileb Rodriguez, a 6-foot-9 senior, leads the team in scoring at 17 points per game on 66-percent shooting.
 
Cal State East Bay, coached by former Chico State assistant Gus Argenal, is off to a 3-1 start. Heading into a Tuesday night matchup at Holy Names, Micah Dunhour is leading the Pioneers in scoring (14 ppg.) and rebounding (7.8). He's a senior transfer from Notre Dame de Namur.
