A lot of people are expecting big things from the Chico State men's basketball team this season. The Wildcats, ranked as high as No. 6 in the nation, lived up to those expectations in their 2016-17 exhibition opener Tuesday night in Acker Gym, beating Future College 108-51.

All 14 Wildcats in uniform scored, led by Corey Silverstrom's 17 points. Michael Bethea, Jr. scored 12, and Isaiah Ellis and Nate Ambrosini scored 10 apiece.

Chico State dominated inside, outrebounding Future College 55-23 and outscoring the Orange Owls 52-16 in the paint. Freshman Justin Briggs pulled down a game-high 12 boards in just 17 minutes.

The Wildcats jumped out to an 11-0 lead before subbing out their five starters. Those five–Robert Duncan, Jalen McFerren, Marvin Timothy, Silverstrom, and Ellis–outscored Future College 35-6 during their 11:32 on the court.

The night marked the Chico State debuts of Bethea, Briggs, and true freshmen Calvin Geraci, Isaiah Brooks, Josh Lavergne and Spencer LaShells. They all displayed a ton of promise. Brooks was especially productive, piling up nine points, four assists and three rebounds in just 11 minutes.

Chico State is back in action Friday in an exhibition game at Arizona Christian. The Wildcats will take on the University of Arizona Sunday at 3 p.m., Pacific, in a game that will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network.
