Chico State completes first season sweep of Stanislaus State in five seasons

The Chico State men's and women's basketball teams honored retiring University President Dr. Paul J. Zingg and his wife Yasuko prior to Saturday night's men's basketball game against Stanislaus State, presenting them with personalized Chico State basketball jerseys and a ball signed by every player and coach.
 
The Wildcats had a ball after that, blowing out Stanislaus State 85-50 to complete their first season sweep of the Warriors in five seasons.

an assist, a block and a steal Saturday.
Tanner Giddings scored a game-high 19 points and Corey Silverstrom contributed 14. Robert Duncan and Jalen McFerren both flirted with triple-doubles. Dunan delivered 13 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. McFerren finished with eight points, nine rebounds and six assists. Isaiah Ellis led the Wildcats with nine points at the break and finished with 11 as Chico State extended its home in-conference win streak to 14 games.
 
They've won 16 of their first 19 for the first time since 1941 and the third time in the 101-season history of the program.
 
Chico State reeled off three runs of 10-0 or greater Saturday, beginning with a 10-0 spurt early in the game that gave it the lead for good. Duncan and Silverstrom started it with threes and then Ellis elevated for a dunk before hitting a jumper to make it 16-9.
 
They built the lead to 34-17 with 4:05 left in the half with another 10-0 push as Giddings scored four points, McFerren made a 3 and Silverstrom converted a three-point play.
 
Midway through the second half the 'Cats cooked up a 15-0 run to put the game away. Giddings provided eight points, Chris Magalotti a three-point play, and Duncan and McFerren made jumpers to stretch the lead to 74-43 with 5:22 left. Duncan dished out three assists during those decisive four minutes.
 
Nate Ambrosini and Tyler Harris had strong games off the bench. Ambrosini notched six points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal in 18 minutes. Harris hit a 3 and had four assists and three rebounds in 15 minutes.
 
Chico State improved to 10-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with its fourth straight win and seventh in the last eight games.
 
Cal State Stanislaus fell to 5-12 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA with its seventh consecutive loss.
 
The Wildcats are alone in second place in the CCAA standings with eight to play, a game behind UC San Diego (but tied in the loss column), and a game and a half ahead of third-place Cal Poly Pomona.
 
Chico State hosts Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay next weekend before embarking on a trip to UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino. After that, the Wildcats will play home games against Humboldt State and Cal State Dominguez Hills before finishing the regular season at Cal State L.A. on Feb. 27.
