STOCKTON – The senior class of Mike Rosaroso, Jordan Semple and Jordan Barton have helped Chico State almost completely re-write the men's basketball program's postseason record book over the past four seasons. They've won more postseason games and advanced further in the NCAA Tournament – with last season's trip to the Elite Eight – than any senior class that came before. With Friday's 72-60 win against Cal State Stanislaus, they almost certainly cemented their fourth straight NCAA Championship Tournament berth, something Chico State has never accomplished.
Saturday night the Wildcats have a chance to add another new line to the Media Guide: California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament Champions.
Robert Duncan matched his career-high with 23 points and Rosaroso helped fuel a 21-6 game-ending run Friday to advance the Wildcats into the tournament's title game for the fourth straight season. Saturday they'll try to win their first against Cal Poly Pomona, a 78-68 winner over Humboldt State in Friday's second semifinal.
Chico State's suffocating zone defense limited Cal State Stanislaus
to just six points in the final 10 minutes. The Wildcats will be the first team to play in four straight CCAA Championship Tournament title games since UC Riverside's run from 1992-95.
"Winning that would mean a lot," said Rosaroso. "We don't want to get there all four years and then come up short. We're going to go to battle tomorrow night and see how the chips fall."
Tipoff is scheduled for 7:35. The pregame show on AM-1290 KPAY will start at 7:15. Links to online audio, video and stats are available at

The Wildcats were in the zone Friday night. (No, not that kind of zone.) They went into a zone defense midway through the second half that completely neutralized Cal State Stanislaus.
The Warriors' 54-51 lead wilted along with its offensive production. They missed 10 of their final 12 shots and all six of their 3-point attempts while committing three turnovers down the stretch.
"We planned to use the zone at some point. We used it a little in the first half and it gave them some problems," said Wildcats Head Coach Greg Clink. "It really did in the second half. It kept getting better."
Semple scored a pair of free throws with 7:04 remaining to give Chico State the lead for good. Then Rosaroso asserted himself. First he found Duncan with a bullet pass under the bucket for a basket as the shot clock expired. He did something similar on the next possession, shuffling a pass to Tanner Giddings for an easy deuce.
Jordan Semple stacked up nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.Corey Silverstrom's steal led to Rosaroso's transition 3 seconds later, and Chico State's lead was 65-58 with just 3:41 to play. Silverstrom threw an up-court pass to Duncan, who delivered a cross-court dime to Rosaroso for the corner trey.
Semple sank two more free throws with 1:18 left to stretch the lead to 10.
Kitchens finished with 12 points and Rosaroso scored nine. Semple was scintillating again with nine points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots.
The Wildcats, winners of 15 of their last 16 games, improved to 22-6. Cal State Stanislaus finished its season with a record of 18-10.
