’Cats ranked 7th in West Region, chasing CCAA crown

Wrap up road portion of regular season at Sonoma, San Francisco this weekend

The Chico State men's basketball team wrapped up its sixth straight postseason berth last weekend. But the Wildcats are hoping that 2014-15 in remembered for so much more. A California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship and NCAA Championship Tournament berth would do the trick.
 
The Wildcats, 17-6 overall and 14-4 in the CCAA, enter the final two weeks of the regular season tied for first place in the conference standings and ranked No. 7 in the inaugural NCAA West Region rankings.

Chico State wraps up the road portion of its regular season this weekend with showdowns at Sonoma State Friday and San Francisco State Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
 
They'll close out their conference campaign against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay Feb. 27-28, respectively.
 
The Wildcats are looking for their second CCAA titles in four years and their fourth consecutive NCAA Championship Tournament berth.
 
The winners of the CCAA, Great Northwest Athletic Conference and Pacific West Conference Championship Tournaments will automatically advance to the NCAA Championship Tournament. Five at-large teams chosen by the committee will join them.
 
The Wildcats beat Sonoma State 64-59 on Jan. 17 in Chico behind the strong play of their four freshmen. Isaiah Ellis scored 13 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds before fouling out in 19 minutes. Corey Silverstrom and Tyler Harris scored seven points apiece. And Jalen McFerren hit the 3-pointer that gave the Wildcats the lead for good and started the 13-0 push.
 
They beat San Francisco State 61-59 on Jan. 16 in Chico in a three-overtime thriller on Robert Duncan's game-winning bucket with 1.3 seconds left.
