’Cats to cap tremendous 2015 with New Years Eve matinee

Chico State hosts Cal State L.A. with 10-game home conference win streak on line

The year 2015 has been one of the best in the history of the Chico State men's basketball program. The Wildcats are 25-7 overall and 11-2 at home during the calendar year. That includes a stretch of 10 straight home conference wins.

They'll try to finish it in fitting fashion Thursday afternoon at Acker Gym in a New Years Eve matinee against Cal State L.A. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Chico State enters the game with a record of 9-2. The Wildcats are 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), one game out of first.

Cal State L.A. is just 2-8 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA, but the Golden Eagles have won two straight.

A win Thursday would guarantee that the Wildcats head into Saturday's showdown at Cal State Dominguez Hills in second place and just a game out of first in the CCAA.

It would also be the latest in a long line of big wins in 2015.

Graduated captain Mike Rosaroso played a huge role in many of the
Wildcats' big wins in 2015.
Here is a list of the team's top five wins of 2015 (Click the link to read the story):

5. The Wildcats beat Cal Poly Pomona 60-52 to take over sole possession of first place in the CCAA on Feb. 8.

4. Robert Duncan hit the game-winner with 1.3 seconds remaining in triple-overtime to beat San Francisco State 61-59 and start the Wildcats' current 10-game home conference win streak on Jan. 16.

3. "McFerren's Miracle" – a half-court buzzer beater – lifted Chico State to an 83-82 win over Cal State San Marcos on Dec. 12.

2. Exactly 10 years to the night that the Wildcats came from 14 points down in the final two minutes to win at Cal State San Bernardino, they did it again on Feb. 12. Mike Rosaroso railed a 3-pointer with one-tenth of a second left in overtime – his only points of the night – to give Chico State a 73-72 win and their 10th straight victory.

1. On a night for legends, the Wildcats created their own, winning their second CCAA title in four years by beating Cal State East Bay 87-61 on Feb. 28.  At halftime, many of the greatest players in the history of the program – The All-Century Team – were called onto the court to a loud ovation from the capacity crowd. It was also Senior Night.

Saturday night's game in the Torodome is scheduled to tip at 7:30. Cal State Dominguez Hills, which hosts Cal State San Marcos Thursday at 3 p.m., is 6-4 overall and 1-2 in the CCAA.
