Can ’Cats set road record in Rohnert Park?

Also have a chance for first 10-1 start since 1942-43

Outside of Chico, perhaps no fan base in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) has a firmer grasp on the shifting fortunes of the Chico State men's basketball program than the folks in Rohnert Park.

Sonoma State beat the Wildcats at home 13 times in a row between Feb. of 1998 and Jan. of 2010. But under Head Coach Greg Clink, the Wildcats' climb toward perennial West Region power status has included three straight wins at Sonoma State – all by double-digits – and four wins in their last five games there.

Chico State's success on the road has not been relegated to just one place.

With seven straight road wins heading into Saturday night's showdown with rival Sonoma State in Rohnert Park, the Wildcats will be attempting to break the program's record for consecutive road wins set just two seasons ago. At 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the CCAA, the Wildcats also have a chance to match the best start in school history.

Only five Chico State men's basketball teams have started 10-1, and none since the 1942-43 season.

The Wildcats are one of three remaining unbeatens in conference play. Cal Poly Pomona, done with conference action until New Years Day, is 4-0. UC San Diego (at Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday night and home against Cal State San Marcos Sunday) is 2-0.

Sonoma State is 5-4 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA. The Seawolves have lost three straight, but boast a 3-1 record at home.

Chico State has won seven straight against Sonoma State to take a 48-41 edge in the all-time series.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Every Chico State basketball game this season will be broadcast locally on Newstalk 1290 KPAY-AM. Links to streaming audio, video and live stats are available in the calendar section on the ChicoWildcats.com homepage and on the men's basketball schedule page.
