LOS ANGELES – A storybook start for the Chico State women's soccer team was trumped by a dreadful finish in a 3-2 loss at Cal State L.A. Sunday.
Freshman Gabi Story scored her first collegiate goal just 25 seconds into the match but the Wildcats needed Nicole Roberts' 48
th-minute strike to tie the match at 2-apiece and eventually force overtime where the Golden Eagles got the golden goal in the 99
th minute.
Chico State dipped to 7-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), while Cal State L.A. improved to 4-5-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCAA.
Story scored when Pooja Patel's shot just 14 seconds into the match parried off the post. Story tracked down the deflection and scored far post.
Trailing 2-1 at the half, Chico State once again struck soon after the whistle to tie the match. Katie Brown's free kick clanged off the crossbar and Roberts scored on the rebound to knot the score 2:56 into the second stanza.
The Wildcats finished with a 16-12 advantage in shots
The Wildcats will be back out on the road next weekend when they visit Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino to wrap up their regular-season road slate.
