The Chico State men's basketball team will reach the midpoint of its conference schedule this weekend on a road trip to Cal State East Bay and Cal State Monterey Bay. If the Wildcats learned anything during the first 10 conference games, they won't expect an easy trip.
Six of the Wildcats' first 10 conference games were decided by five points or less, including four via overtime.
Chico State went 4-2 in those games, which is one of the key reasons they're in the thick of the race for the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title. At 10-5 overall and 7-3 in the CCAA, the Wildcats are in a three-way tie for second place with Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego. That trio trails conference-leader Cal State Stanislaus by a game.
Cal State Monterey Bay, coached by former Chico State assistant Rob Bishop, is 8-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA. Cal State East Bay – coached by former Chico State assistant Gus Argenal and assisted by former Chico State point guard and CCAA Player of the Year Jay Flores – is 4-12 overall and 2-8 in the CCAA.
Both games are scheduled to tipoff at approximately 7:30 p.m. Follow all of the action with Mike Baca handling the play-by-play locally on Newstalk 1290 KPAY-AM and on the Internet via the Wildcat Athletics website.
