’Cats pull away behind senior trio

Wildcats win 5th straight on road as Carraway leads way with 20

Box Score As an assistant coach at Chico State Gus Argenal recruited Amir Carraway, Rashad Parker and Sean Park. Saturday night, in the final home game of his first season as Cal State East Bay's head coach, he paid for it.

The Wildcats led 53-50 with under five minutes to play before the senior trio scored 16 of the team's final 18 points in a 70-56 win in Hayward.

Chico State improved to 19-5 with its fifth straight road win and fifth straight win overall. The Wildcats locked up third place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and the third seed in the CCAA Championship Tournament as well.

Carraway finished with 20 points, Parker 16, Giordano Estrada and Park eight points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Semple also grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with six points, two blocked shots and two steals.

Chico State led just 53-50 when before Carraway canned a 3-pointer and a layup on consecutive possessions. Park, who had four rebounds and an assist in the final 4:37, then took his turn. He tipped in a miss and then driving for a bucket to stretch the lead to 62-54 with 2:09 remaining. Parker made four straight free throws down the stretch to help seal the win.

The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season at home next weekend. They host rival Humboldt State Friday night before facing conference co-leader Cal Poly Pomona on Senior Night Saturday. Both games are scheduled to tip at 7:30.

GAME NOTES – Chico State has now won 19 games or more in three consecutive seasons for the second time in school history and the first since the 1990-91, 91-92, 92-93 campaigns. Ironically, Clink was a player on the team during that 1992-93 season…The Wildcats' 63 wins during the span are the second most in a three-year span to only that 1990-93 stretch in which the Wildcats won 67…The Wildcats finished the regular season 9-3 away from home…The Wildcats' 40 free throw attempts were their most since shooting 44 on Nov. 18, 2005 at Central Washington…Their 26 made charities were the most in a CCAA game since Feb. 3, 2011 at Sonoma State…The Wildcats improved to 50-4 when holding an opponent under 60 points in the Clink era…Parker was 10-for-10 from the free throw line, matching Roderick Hawkins for the most makes without a miss in a game for the Wildcats in the Clink era.
