Box Score CARSON – The Chico State men's basketball team pushed the pause button on all the dramatics Saturday night, pounding Cal State Dominguez Hills 85-60.
The Wildcats' last three games and five of their last seven had been decided on the final possession but there was never much doubt Saturday night. Chico State led 50-25 at the half and led by as many 31.
Sean Park led five Wildcats in double-figures with 19 points. Rashad Parker scored 14, Jordan Semple 12, Giordano Estrada 11 and Drew Kitchens 10. Jordan Barton finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Chico State improved to 17-5, matching its best record since the 1992-93 squad started 18-4. The Wildcats are 13-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. They trail conference co-leaders Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino by three games with four to play. They also lead fourth-place Cal State Stanislaus and San Francisco State by three games.
The Wildcats will wrap up their regular-season road schedule next weekend at Cal State Monterey Bay Friday night and Cal State East Bay Saturday. They return home to face Humboldt State on Feb. 28 and Cal Poly Pomona on March 1 – the final regular-season game of the year.
Kitchens came off the bench to score eight points during a 25-6 run that gave the Wildcats a 32-13 edge and they never looked back. Park finished the first half with 12 points, Estrada 11, and Kitchens and Parker eight apiece.
Parker buried a 3-pointer and Park scored inside to make it 55-25 less than a minute into the second half and Park's free throw with 17:28 left gave the Wildcats their largest lead of the night at 58-27.
Chico State shot 61 percent overall and 50 percent from 3-point range. They also dished out 17 assists and committed only six turnovers.
