The Chico State men's basketball team's defense looked unbreakable. The Wildcats led 19-1 with 8:37 to go in the first half and 40-21 with 15:49 to play.
Then Cal State Stanislaus broke through. The Warriors outscored the Wildcats 41-20 down the stretch, capped by Chris Read's game-winning jumper with six seconds to play in an 62-60 overtime win Saturday night at Acker Gym.
Cal State Stanislaus went on a 29-5 run beginning with a Wes Bartole jumper and Shey Mataele's three-point play with 14:50 remaining and finished with a Richie Medina 3-pointer that gave them a 50-45 advantage with 5:23 left.

Chico State fought back to force overtime when Corey Silverstrom delivered a dime to Drew Kitchens under the basket for the game-tying layup with 2.2 seconds remaining.
But they never led in overtime. Robert Duncan delivered a tying basket with 39 seconds left, but Read answered with a 12-foot isolation jumper with six ticks remaining. Chico State's desperation tip try at the buzzer bounced off the backboard.
The comeback victory gave Cal State Stanislaus at least some sense of redemption. The Wildcats handed the Warriors a shocking 81-80 come-from-behind win in last season's NCAA Championship West Regional title game last March and then rallied from 11 points down to beat the Warriors 59-47 last Saturday in Turlock.
This time it was the Warriors who pulled off the shocker.
Chico State fell to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State Stanislaus improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA.
Duncan led Chico State with 15 points. Jordan Semple finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, four blocked shots and a pair of steals before fouling out on a double-technical with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Wildcats are off for the remainder of the holidays before jumping back into conference play with a road trip to Cal Poly Pomona and UC San Diego on the first weekend of January.
