Jason Conrad's head was spinning like a globe. The recently graduated Chico State big man had offers to play professionally in Saudi Arabia, Canada and Germany. The options were dizzying. Then the right one came along.
Â
Conrad has agreed to a two-year contract with the reign champions of the Dutch Basketball League, Zorg en Zekerheid Leiden, more commonly known as ZZ Leiden.
Â
The 7-footer's mother and grandparents are from the Netherlands and he still has family there.
Â
"I didn't know what I was going to do," said Conrad. "But when this offer came along at the last minute, I jumped at it."
Â
"This is something I've always hoped would happen. It's a dream come true."
Â
Conrad came to Chico State as the program's first 7-footer and eventually turned into one of the West Region's top big men, leading the Wildcats to the 2012 CCAA Championship and back-to-back NCAA Championship Tournament berths. He ranks third in Chico State history with 84 blocked shots.
Â
"Everything I experienced at Chico State prepared me to take this step," said Conrad. "The coaching made me a much better player and my coaches and teammates made me a stronger person. I'm so grateful that I chose to play at Chico State."
Â
Conrad departs on Aug. 29
th. The team's schedule kicks off in October.
