This weekend might mark the final home games for five seniors on the Chico State men’s basketball team. But Damario Sims, Jason Conrad, Spencer Moyer, Jake Lovisolo and James Staniland, along with their teammates, will try to take steps toward making sure they have one more.
At 13-9 overall and 10-8 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Wildcats are one of four teams separated by a single game in the conference standings in a fight for the third and fourth spot. The top four teams at the end of the regular season will host a first-round CCAA Championship Tournament game on March 5.
Cal Poly Pomona has already locked up the conference’s regular-season crown at 17-1 and Cal State San Bernardino is in second at 13-5. San Francisco State and Cal State L.A. are each 11-7 heading into the weekend, while Cal State Dominguez Hills is tied with Chico State at 10-8. UC San Diego is in seventh at 8-10.
Because they host Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A. this weekend, the Wildcats have a prime opportunity to help themselves. Both games are scheduled to tip at approximately 7:30. The team’s five seniors will be honored prior to Saturday’s game, so be sure to be there a few minutes early to enjoy the festivities.
A pair of wins would also help the Wildcats improve their NCAA Championship Tournament prospects. They were ranked 10th in this week’s inaugural rankings.
Following this weekend’s games, Chico State will hit the road for its final regular season games at Cal State East Bay Thursday and Cal State Monterey Bay Friday.
