Park puts Wildcats in gear in season-opening win

Scores 19 and nabs seven rebounds, all in the first half

Box Score The 2013-14 Chico State men's basketball team left a fine first impression on the home fans with a 75-42 shellacking of Holy Names Saturday afternoon at Acker Gym in the season opener for both teams. Fifth-year senior Sean Park, who will be leaving his final impression as a Wildcat this season, was a big reason why.

Chico State men's basketball player Nate Appel
built a 37-14 first-half lead. The 19 points are more than he scored all last season, and the seven rebounds matched his season-high from a year ago.

Rashad Parker and Giordano Estrada added nine points and three assists apiece. Drew Kitchens finished with eight points, Amir Carraway seven and Trevor Pirest and Nate Appel six each.

Appel led the Wildcats' 43-20 domination of the glass with eight rebounds. Chris Magalotti and Jordan Semple pulled down six boards apiece. Semple also chipped in four points, four assists and a pair of blocks.

Chico State Head Coach Greg Clink's depth was on full display as eleven different Wildcats played 10 minutes or more and the Wildcats' bench blistered Holy Names for 36 points on 14-of-22 shooting, 24 rebounds and 12 assists.

The Wildcats held Holy Names to 16-of-51 shooting.

Chico State is back in action next Saturday in Turlock for its California Collegiate Athletic Association opener against Cal State Stanislaus, an 85-72 winner against Simon Fraser in its season opener Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Wildcats are back in town to host the Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Invitational Nov. 29-30.
