Box Score REDDING – The Chico State men's basketball team's 70-47 win at Simpson University in Redding was more an illustration of the Wildcats' thorns then their petals.
Chico State's defense rose to the occasion, limiting Simpson to a season-low in scoring, more than 28 points below its season average.
Jordan Semple led the Wildcats (2-1) with 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Fellow starters Sean Park and Jordan Barton chipped in 12 points apiece. Barton also bullied his way to a season-high nine rebounds.
Chris Magalotti provided his best effort yet in a Chico State uniform, coming off the bench to score 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. The 6-foot-10 sophomore also contributed seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
Chico State hosts the Carl's Jr. Mac Martin Invitational this weekend, an event also featuring nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific, unbeaten Dominican and San Francisco State. Games start at 5:30 Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats will be playing at 7:30 each night.
