It was only three seasons ago when the Chico State men’s basketball team stumbled to a seven-win season. But that was Chico State basketball B.C. – before Clink. Now, just into his third season at the helm, Clink and his staff have the Wildcats on the precipice of their seventh win in just their eighth game of the season.
The Wildcats will attempt to get that win, and the historic ramifications that would come with it, when Pacific Union visits Acker Gym Saturday for a 7 PM tipoff. A win would make the Wildcats 7-1 for the first time since the start of the 1942-43 season.
Chico State has to like its chances, having beaten the NAIA Division II Pioneers in each of the last three seasons by an average of more than 33 points. Especially considering that an emotional letdown seems unlikely after the Wildcats nearly blew a 15-point lead in a 61-59 victory against Cal State Stanislaus Wednesday night.
The Wildcats have another reason to exert maximum effort Saturday: A 19-day layoff for finals and holiday festivities follows. The Wildcats will not be in action again until they travel to face Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Dec. 30-31.
