'Cats travel to SoCal to take on Toros and Golden Eagles

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico State men’s basketball team embarks on its final road trip of the season this weekend, taking on the Golden Eagles of Cal State L.A. Friday night and the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros Saturday.

The Wildcats (6-17 overall, 3-13 in CCAA play) look to snap a season-long seven game losing streak and finish the 2008-09 campaign on a positive note. Cal State L.A. (10-13 overall, 5-11 CCAA) beat the ’Cats 67-49 in their first meeting Jan. 17 at Acker Gym. Cal State Dominguez Hills (18-5 overall, 12-4 CCAA), who enters the weekend with a share of the conference lead, handed the Wildcats an 83-54 loss in Chico on Jan. 16.

Chico State’s Andy Bocian, averaging 20 points a game, continues to be the CCAA’s leading scorer, while teammate Justin Argenal tops the conference in assists (4.5 a game). Argenal, who two weeks ago became the CCAA’s all-time career assists man, enters the weekend just one steal shy of tying the Chico State career record of 201 held by Deon Robinson. Argenal is also 10 swipes away from taking over the CCAA career steals record, held since 2001 by Cal State L.A.’s Quincy Stinson.

Tipoff for both Friday and Saturday games is 7:30 p.m. Hear all the action with Mike Baca calling the play-by-play on ESPN 101.7 FM locally or on the Internet via the Wildcats Athletics website. The Wildcat wrap up the regular season Feb. 25-26 at Acker Gym, hosting Cal State Stanislaus Wednesday night and UC San Diego on Thursday.
