Big second-half runs propels HSU past Chico State

ARCATA, Calif. - Josh Jackson's tip-in to start the second half gave Chico State a one-point lead and had the Wildcats in prime position to pull off a major upset at Humboldt State. But the Lumberjacks responded with a 35-9 run and beat Chico State for the eighth straight time, 78-60.

Andy Bocian led the Wildcats with 24 points to push his career total to 1,371 and move him past Deon Robinson (1997-2001) into fifth place on Chico State's career scoring list. Jackson finished with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Roderick Hawkins finished with seven points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds for the second night in a row.

The Wildcats have now lost seven straight games, each of which they've led for at least a moment in the second half, to fall to 6-17 overall and 3-13 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Humboldt State improved to 19-7 overall and remained tied atop the CCAA standings with Cal State Dominguez Hills at 12-4.

Zac Tiedeman buried 10 of 13 shots, including 5 of 7 from 3-point range to lead Humboldt State with 27 points. Kevin Atkins chipped in 18 points.
