WALNUT – It shouldn’t surprise anyone with the incredible year distance runner Scott Bauhs has put together, but Bauhs is now on track to add the title of “Olympian” to his resume. The Chico State junior ran the third fastest time ever by a Division II athlete to finish eighth in the 5,000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays. He notched a time of 13:31.90,  just over a second better than the Olympic Trials automatic qualifying mark of 13:33, which gives Bauhs the opportunity to compete in the Olympic trials June 27 in Eugene, Oregon.

Bauh's time in the race Friday, among a field of professional runners and top Division I athletes, is the fastest by an American in the history of Division II. The two times ahead of him were posted by a New Zealander and a Kenyan.
