PHOENIX - The Wildcat bats stayed hot this weekend, making it a four-game sweep of Grand Canyon today with a 10-5 victory over the Lopes to wrap up a non-conference series. Chico State (17-7 overall) put 15 total hits in the scorebook, scoring two runs in the second, five in the sixth, and three more to insure the win in the top of the ninth.
Cody Dee and Jimmy Dodos both homered in the game and Travis Decoito led the Wildcats with three hits, including a two-run double in the sixth. Joey Burke, Nick Dingman, Shane Farmer and Kyle Eveland each had two hits for Chico State.
Grand Canyon (7-21 overall) went through six pitchers in the game, but it was starter Robert Shoemaker (L, 0-1) who took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in one and one-third innings on the mound.
Chico State used five pitchers in the game. Starter Joel Garcia (W, 2-1) picked up the win, pitching a scheduled three innings. He allowed just one hit and one walk. Jr. Garcia pitched the fourth and fifth, giving up three hits. Drew Dowl allowed four runs on five hits in the sixth and Kyle Gibson let one more run across in the seventh. Dylan Gaughen picked up his first save of season, surrendering one hit in the final two innings.
Chico State combined for 52 hits and 33 runs in the four-game series. Dee and Farmer each hit .571 in the series to lead the Wildcats. Dee went 8-for-15 with two homers, two doubles, and six RBI. Farmer played in three games, going 4-for-7 with two doubles and two RBI. In all, ten Wildcats hit over .333 in the series.
