SEASIDE, Calif. – Audriana Spencer made 10-of-14 shots and scored a game-high 23 points to lift the Chico State women's basketball team to its sixth straight win Saturday, 73-67 at Cal State Monterey Bay. Spencer was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and has now made 180 threes, tied with Kim Abts for the most ever by a Chico State player. She also pulled down six rebounds.
Chico State improved to 19-4 overall and 12-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with the victory. Cal State Monterey Bay fell to 2-19 overall and 1-13 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats continue to lead Cal State San Bernardino by one game in the race for the CCAA crown with six games to play. Chico State will travel to face the Coyotes next Friday. Thanks to Sonoma State's loss at UC San Diego Saturday, Chico State now has a three-game cushion over both of those teams, which currently share third place in the conference.
Chico State's effort Saturday certainly was not its strongest of the season. However, the Wildcats outrebounded Cal State Monterey Bay 39-28 and also limited the Otters to just 34 percent shooting. Jade Smith-Williams chipped in 10 points for the Wildcats. Melissa Richardson finished with four points, six rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Renee Goldoff finished with six points and 10 rebounds. Cory Edwards chipped in eight points, five rebounds, and two assists in 19 minutes off the bench.
