LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Bret Ringer homered, tripled, and drove in three runs to lead the Chico State baseball team to a 10-5 victory over Cal State L.A. in a game that spanned more than 21 hours. The game started at 2 p.m., it was delayed by rain for almost two hours, and then the lights at Reeder Field went out with one out in the bottom of the ninth and the Cal State L.A. staff was unable to get them back on. Thus, the teams finished the game Saturday at 11 a.m.
Ivan Gonzales struck out the final two batters to seal Chico State's win. Pete Mickartz (4-0) pitched the first five innings to earn the win. Kyle Woodruff was sailing toward his first Chico State save before the lights went out. He tossed three-and-a-third innings and struck out five.
Ringer hit a two-run triple and Phil Boscarino singled home two runs during Chico State's seven-run seventh inning. The Wildcats were hit by four pitches and stole four bases to improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
Cal State L.A. fell to 5-8 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.
