SATURDAY:
SAN FRANCISCO – Chico State’s Chelsea Lundberg drove in Megan Bera with a single in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game against San Francisco State at 1-1 and force extra innings, but a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth cost the Wildcats the game, 2-1.
The teams were completeing the second game of Friday’s doubleheader, which was halted due to darkness. The game picked up this morning in the bottom of the sixth with the Gators leading 1-0.
After tying the game in the seventh, Gator hurler Ashley Johnson (W, 4-3) shut down the Wildcats in order the final two innings.
Pitcher Lauren Walker (L, 3-3), who started the game on Friday, held the Gators scoreless in the sixth through eighth innings, allowing two hits. But ninth-inning, lead-off hitter Alyssa Esquibel cleared the left field fence to end the game.
The second doubleheader was postponed due to rain. The rescheduled date has not been announced.

SAN FRANCISCO - The Chico State softball team battled back twice in the opening game of a four-game CCAA series in San Francisco, but the Gators landed the final blow with a bases-loaded hit batter in the bottom of the seventh to win the game, 7-6. The second game was halted due to darkness with San Francisco leading 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth. The two teams will conclude game two tomorrow morning at 9:30am with the scheduled doubleheader to follow.
San Francisco to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, capped off by a two-run home run by Kelsey Wood.
Chico State’s Nickie Jarrett hit a two-run homer, the team's first of the year, in the third to cut the Gator lead to 3-2. The Wildcats then tied the game in their half of the fourth on a Chelsea Lundberg RBI single.
SF State retook the lead 4-3 with a run in the fourth, but the Wildcats exploded with a three-fun fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Gwen Cox, Rebecca Johnson and Lundberg each had RBI singles in the inning.
The Gators did wait long, tying the game in the bottom of the fifth. The sixth inning and top of the seventh were quiet and the game looked destined for extra innings, but the Gators loaded the bases on a walk and two hits and a hit batter brought the winning run across the plate.
Lauren Walker (L, 3-2) took the loss after coming on in relief of starter Krystal Shaw in the fourth inning. She pitched three innings, giving up six hits and three runs while striking out two and walking one.

Kendra Wood (W, 3-1) picked up the win in relief as she struck out three and walked one while giving up seven hits and four runs.
In the second game, Walker shut out the Gators through the first four innings before they broke through with a home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Chico State put eight hits on the board through six innings, including two apiece by Lundberg and Allison Smith, but couldn’t get a run across.
