Wildcats 86 Warriors for 10th straight home win

CHICO, Calif.  – Renee Goldoff scored 23 points and the Chico State women’s basketball team matched it’s season high in points in an 86-70 victory against Cal State Stanislaus Thursday night in Acker Gym. The Wildcats, ranked No. 18 in the nation and No. 3 in the West Region, have now beaten the Warriors 10 straight times.

Chico State improved to 16-4 overall and 9-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Wildcats took over first place atop the conference standings with the win, as Cal State San Bernardino (8-2) was idle Thursday. Cal State Stanislaus fell to 5-12 overall and 3-8 in the CCAA.

Chico State controlled the course of the game and led by as many as 12 points in the first half and 24 in the second half. Goldoff was 10-of-14 from the field and the Wildcats shot 50 percent as a team. They also had a 47-21 advantage in bench points and a 62-28 advantage in points in the paint.

Natasha Smith finished with 11 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists. Amanda Monteith pulled down a career-high and game-high nine rebounds. Christine Vest had seven points and eight rebounds in just 11 minutes of action. Audriana Spencer chipped in 10 points, four assists, and a pair of blocked shots. Spencer is now just one assist shy of becoming the fifth player in Chico State women’s basketball history to dish out 300 career assists.

Spencer also played in the 111th game of her career, matching Samantha Copenhaver for the most games by any player in a Chico State women’s basketball uniform.

Christin Gowan made 5-of-6 shots, 3-of-3 threes, and 6-of-7 free throws en route to a team-high 19 points for Cal State Stanislaus. Katie Busi scored 15 points, Shristy Kumar chipped in 13, and Lysandra Williams added 12.  The Warriors turned the ball over 25 times, however, and were outrebounded 39-26.

The Wildcats, now winners of 39 of their last 40 home games, will face UC San Diego Friday at 6 p.m. The Tritons handed the Wildcats their only loss in those last 40 home games last season.
