Shooting touch betrays 'Cats in loss to SF State

SAN FRANCISCO - Fourteen straight missed shots to start the second half doomed the Chico State men's basketball team in a 60-49 loss at San Francisco State Saturday night. Andy Bocian scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and Nick Lonnegren came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, but the rest of the team made only 18 percent (6-of-34) of their field goal attempts.

The Wildcats fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with their sixth straight road loss to start the season and their 16th loss in their last 17 road games overall. The good news for Chico State is that it's 2-0 at home and the 'Cats will host Pacific Union Thursday at 7 p.m. San Francisco State improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA.

Bocian scored the Wildcats' first 12 points and kept them within a bucket of San Francisco State for much of the first half. A late Gators run stretched their lead to 31-23 at the half. Chico State pulled to within six points on two different second-half occasions, but the Wildcats could never muster enough offense to get closer.

San Francisco State's 44-27 advantage on the glass also assured that they would not relinquish the lead.
