MONMOUTH, Ore. – Andy Bocian turned in another strong performance with 25 points and eight rebounds on Saturday at the Phoenix Inn D2 Shootout in Oregon, but the Wildcats fell short, 94-84 to Wisconsin-Parkside.
The ‘Cats shot 65 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 45-36 lead into the locker room at halftime. Wisconsin-Parkside started the second half on a 20-11 run and tied the game at 56-56 with 13:03 remaining in regulation.
After falling behind late in the half, Chico State put together a 10-4 run to bring the score to 78-79 with 2:39 remaining but couldn’t regain the lead.
The loss was the Wildcats’ fourth-straight to open the season. Wisconsin-Parkside is now 1-3 overall.
Chico State dominated points in the paint, outscoring Wisconsin-Parkside 46-20 under the basket. The ‘Cats finished the game shooting 58 percent from the floor.
Chris Sharp had 11 points and Zach Graves added 10, both on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Roderick Hawkins came off the bench to add another 11 for the Wildcats. Justin Argenal led the team with six assist.
The ‘Cats will look for their first victory of the season this weekend when they host the Mac Martin Invitational Tournament Nov. 28-29. Chico State plays at 7:30 both nights, hosting University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Friday and St. Cloud State on Saturday.
