Bagwell nets game winner, Gonzales breaks record in 2-1 win

POMONA, Calif. — Katherine Bagwell won a loose ball and then scored from 20 yards out 3:31 into overtime to lift the Chico State women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at 24th-ranked Cal Poly Pomona Sunday. Bagwell scored both of Chico State's goals to help Chico State goalkeeper Kari Gonzales earn her record-setting 33rd career victory.

Chico State improved to 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA with the win. Cal Poly Pomona fell to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the CCAA.

Bagwell scored with an assist from Abby Stretch just 31 seconds into the match, and the Wildcats never trailed. Cal Poly Pomona knotted the score 1-1 in the 73rd minute, however, when Jennifer Lu scored on unassisted goal  against Wildcats goalkeeper Natalie Bensky, who took over for Gonzales at the half.

Gonzales was back between the pipes for overtime, however, making her the goalkeeper of record when the game-winning goal was scored.

Chico State finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots and a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Wildcats are back in action Wednesday at Cal State Stanislaus. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
