ARCATA - The Chico State women’s soccer team fired 23 shots, but only one could find the back of the net as the No. 4 regionally ranked Wildcats lost to Humboldt State, 2-1, in CCAA soccer action Friday.
The Wildcats fall to 4-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the CCAA, while the Lumberjacks improve to 3-3-2 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
The Lumberjacks first goal developed just seven minutes into the game when Kayla Welbanks took the ball all the way to the Wildcats’ endline, then sent a low cross in front of the goalmouth where Meghan Connolly touched it into the net.
The ‘Cats wasted no time tying the score, as just one minute later Katherine Bagwell received a cross from Melissa Lindsay and slotting it into the left corner of the net for her team-high fourth goal of the season.
Humboldt put the game-winner in the net in the 74th minute when Allison Lawrence scored her first goal of the season on a long pass off a free kick.
Chico State travels to Rohnert Park for a 12:30 game on Sunday against Sonoma State.
