ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The Chico State volleyball team rebounded from a season-opening loss with three straight victories at the Seawolf Spike Volleyball Tournament hosted by Sonoma State over the weekend.
The Wildcats dropped a five-game affair to Northwest Nazarene 30-24, 30-26, 29-31, 24-30, 15-6 to open the season early Friday despite Lindsay Macias match-high 29 kills. Erica Brick dished out 66 assists and also notched 22 digs.
True freshman Crystal Trifeletti hammered out 12 kills and hit .478 in her first collegiate match. Wildcats Head Coach Cody Hein earned his 100th collegiate victory later in the day as the Wildcats defeated Western Oregon 30-21, 30-23, 23-30, 30-23. Macias notched 17 kills and Gillian Heydorff pounded out 16 to go along with her 17 digs.
Lacy Stringfellow tied the Chico State record with 41 digs in a 30-24, 29-31, 30-20, 28-30, 15-11 win against Seattle University Saturday. Already the schools career leader in digs, Stringfellow tied Julie Spragues single-match record set in 1990.
Heydorff pounded out a career-high 26 kills and added 24 digs. Macias finished with 22 kills and 23 assists. Stringfellow dug 32 balls, the seventh most in school history, later in the day against Notre Dame de Namur. With Brick and Whitney Johnson taking the match off, the Wildcats earned a 30-28, 27-30, 30-18, 27-30, 15-11 win. Stephanie Aschenbrenner led the way with 57 assists and 20 digs.
Macias and Heydorff were named to the Seawolf Spike All-Tournament team.
Chico State opens its home slate Tuesday, August 28, against William Jessup College at 7 p.m.
