CHICO, Calif. - The Cal Poly Pomona volleyball team hammered down 17 blocks and limited Chico State to a season-low .082 hitting percentage as the Wildcats lost for the fifth time in their last six matches 22-30, 25-30, 30-26, 25-30.
Antoinette Kathol hit .409 en route to 13 kills, while Vanessa Williams notched nine kills on .421 hitting to go along with eight blocks for 22nd-ranked Cal Poly Pomona, which improved to 20-6 overall and 12-5 in the CCAA. Brittany Harkey finished with a match-high nine blocks for the Broncos.
Chico State fell to 16-11 overall and 9-8 in the CCAA. The Wildcats got 14 kills from Lindsay Macias and 10 from Gillian Heydorff. Whitney Johnson and Kelly Smiland finished with nine kills apiece, while Crystal Trifeletti had eight. Lacy Stringfellow paced the Chico State defense with 17 digs, and Erica Brick led the offense with 41 assists.
The Wildcats will wrap up their 2007 regular season at home Saturday night against No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino at 7 p.m. The team's four seniors - Stringfellow, Johnson, Samantha Davis, and Amanda Ley - will be honored prior to the start of the match.
