Erica Brick recorded her 3,000 career assists

Brick and Macias making marks in the record books

POMONA - Despite two loses over the weekend to second-ranked Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona, the No. 19 ranked Wildcat volleyball team had two players make impressive moves in the Chico State record book.

Erica Brick became just the second Chico State player to record more than 3,000 career assists. Currently at 3,009, the Wildcat junior is 312 short of the Chico State record of 3,321 held by Christy McCune (1998-2001).

Lindsay Macias, who just recorded her 1,000th career kill last weekend in Acker Gym, took over third place on the Wildcats’ all-time kills list. Macias’ 1,043 kills moved her ahead of Traci Ciapponi ( 1,024 kills, 1989-1992) and leaves her just six kills shy of second-place Amber Crezee (1,049 kills, 1997-2000).

After the weekend matches the Wildcats stand at 13-6 overall, 6-3 in the CCAA standings.

On Friday, the Wildcats took on second-ranked San Bernardino (17-1, 9-0 CCAA) and the Coyotes played up to their billing. The Coyotes outhit the Wildcats .465-.165 in the match and easily downed Chico State in three games, 30-18, 30-16, 30-13.

Macias led the ‘Cats with 13 kills, while Gillian Heydorff led the team with eight digs and added seven kills. Brick recorded 25 assists and Crystal Trifeletti recorded two blocks.

On Saturday, the games scores were closer, but the Wildcats still came up on the losing end of a four-game match against Cal Poly Pomona, 30-23, 30-28, 26-30, 30-22.

Macias recorded a double-double with 16 kills and 10 digs, while Heydorff tallied 15 kills and Whitney Johnson added another nine. Brick picked up her 3,000 career assist and posted 42 for the match.

The Wildcats travel to Turlock on Wednesday to face Cal State Stanislaus before returning to Acker Gym on Saturday to host Humboldt State.
