Nettleton Stadium
Nettleton Stadium serves as the home of Chico State baseball, standing as one of the premier collegiate ballparks in the region. Originally known as Roy Bohler Field, the facility was transformed in 1997 into a 4,100-seat baseball showplace thanks to a generous gift of more than $2 million from local businessman Steve Nettleton. Following the renovation, Steve and his wife, Kathy, gifted the stadium to the university, and the facility was renamed in their honor.
The inaugural game at Nettleton Stadium was played on March 1, 1997, when Chico State defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 5–4. Since then, the stadium has been home to countless memorable moments, serving as the backdrop for championship-caliber baseball and continuing the proud tradition of the Wildcat program.
Beyond Chico State, Nettleton Stadium has played a significant role in the local baseball community as the home of multiple professional and collegiate summer teams. The Chico Heat competed at the venue as a professional independent team in the Western Baseball League from 1997 to 2002 and later returned as a summer collegiate team in the Great West League from 2014 to 2018. From 2005 to 2011, Nettleton Stadium also served as the home of the Chico Outlaws, a professional independent team in the North American League. Together, these teams helped establish the stadium as a central destination for baseball in Northern California.
Nettleton Stadium combines a big-time atmosphere with a uniquely intimate feel. Expansive grandstand seating provides excellent sightlines from every angle, while the close proximity to the field allows fans to stay connected to the action. The stadium’s classic design, highlighted by its signature archways and symmetrical layout, creates a timeless ballpark experience in the heart of Chico.
Fans enjoy a welcoming game-day environment that blends comfort and accessibility, with ample seating options and clear views of the entire field. Whether attending a sunny afternoon game or an evening contest under the lights, Nettleton Stadium offers an engaging and energetic setting for Wildcat baseball.
Together, its rich history, strong community ties, and vibrant atmosphere make Nettleton Stadium a cornerstone of Chico State Athletics and a destination for baseball fans throughout the region.
