Though she’s only a junior, Taylor Stewart jokingly refers to herself as the elder member of the Chico State women’s golf team. The Oakdale native has been teeing it up for the Wildcats since the fall of 2019, and each season has delivered the type of consistently fine play that’s expected of a seasoned veteran. Stewart kicked off the 2022–23 campaign in quality fashion at the Ruidoso Junior Golf Association-hosted Shootout at Estrella, and her impressive results make her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Stewart fired a 75-76-151 during the two-day RJGA Shootout at Estrella, and was the Wildcats’ top individual finisher, earning a share of 22nd place in the 84-player field.
In the tournament’s opening round on September 26, Stewart shot 1-under par through the first nine holes to card a 3-over par 75 on the 5,901-yard Golf Club of Estrella layout. The following day, she drained three birdies and played 1-over through her final 10 holes to finish with a 76, posting the 22nd sub-80 round and 10th top 25 tournament finish as a Wildcat.
In 39 career rounds as a member of the Chico State women’s golf team, Stewart has crafted a solid 78.9 strokes-per-round average.
Stewart and the Wildcats are back in action this week, competing in the two-day Sonoma State Fall Invitational at Santa Rosa’s Valley of the Moon Club.
