Colby Orr is a sixth man and a bad man. He was the Most Outstanding Player during the Wildcats' NCAA Tournament West Regional Championship run. And he's the Wildcat of the Week. The senior helped propel Chico State into next week's Elite Eight in Evansville, Indiana, by knocking down 16-of-32 shots, including 9-of-18 threes, and playing perhaps the best defense in his career during the three-game tournament. Orr averaged 14 points, two assist, and two steals per game during the Wildcats' run.Â
After a slow start against Academy of Art, Orr torched tournament host Cal State San Bernardino for a career-high 26 points in 26 minutes in the regional semifinal. In the game that turned out to be the biggest test of the week for the Wildcats, Orr was the baddest man on the court. In fact, assistant coach Cevin Meador told him as much during one of his hot streaks. "You're a baaaad man, Colby Orr," he affirmed. "You're a bad man." Orr was on target when catching and shooting, stepping back off the dribble, stopping and popping, and taking it to the paint. He knocked down 10-of-13 shots, including 6-of-9 from three. He also chipped in two assists and two steals.
It was a legendary performance.
Orr stayed hot In the title game, knocking down 5-of-11 shots and finishing with 12 points, three assists, three rebounds, and matching his career high with three steals.Â
Orr and the Wildcats will open the Elite Eight on Tuesday, March 22, at The Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana. The game time and opponent is yet to be determined.
What is already determined is this: Colby Orr is a bad man. And a Wildcat Family legend.
