The Chico State men's basketball team's 93-66 win against rival Humboldt State prior to the NCAA's mandatory winter break may have been more of a thrill to the Wildcats' fans than to point guard Isaiah Brooks. The junior says his biggest sports thrill is winning close games, but thanks in large part to Brooks' career-high 22 points, the Wildcats won in a blowout.

Brooks—the Wildcat of the Week—drilled 8-of-13 shots overall, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc, and contributed five assists, four rebounds, and a steal. He also aided a strong defensive effort during which the Wildcats held Humboldt State 16 points below its season scoring average on a season-low 32-percent shooting.

Brooks helped limit his Lumberjacks counterpart, Leland Green, to seven points. He entered the contest averaging 15.5.

Now in his second season in the starting point guard role, the junior from Sheldon High School in Sacramento ranks third in the CCAA in assist-to-turnover ratio, having logged 44 assists and only 14 turnovers while helping lead the Wildcats to a 9-3 record.

Brooks, a 2019 All-CCAA honorable mention selection after ranking second in the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio and third in assists, enters this week's games at Cal State LA (Thursday at 7:30 p.m.) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Saturday at 3 p.m.) just 32 assists shy of becoming the 16th player in program history to register 200 helpers.
